Jasmine Crockett Faces Backlash Over ‘Broken Code-Switch’ Speech

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) is facing sharp backlash after a recent video showed her adopting a markedly different speaking style, drawing accusations that she was putting on an act.

“Baby, cuz deez people, day are crazy, because they always talking bout how Christian they is, yet I don’t know how many dem on dat side are getting divorced cuz they gettin’ caught up sleepin’ with they coworkers, staffers, interns, all the things,” Crockett said. “Yeah, you ain’t gotta believe me, just go Google, you’ll find some of it. I’m telling’ you, and the wives is bein’ messy and petty …”

Reactions came quickly.

“Her code switch is broken,” Joe DeVito said. Code-switching, as he mentioned, is an active effort to modify one’s appearance, behavior, or speech in order to fit in with a particular group of people.

David Marcus compared Crockett’s shift to actors who lose themselves in roles: “When I was doing theater, I knew a few actors, not many, who got so swept up in a given character they played on stage, that they basically became that person in real life. Forever. I think Crockett has passed this point. This is who she is now.”

Red State’s Bonchie added, “It’s okay to expect your political representatives to speak basic English. And she can. She’s actually very well spoken. This is all an act. She’s a rich kid who went to finest private schools. She’s not from the streets.”

Matt Whitlock posted a side-by-side video, showing Crockett’s measured tone before Congress compared to her new style: “Compare that bizarre bit of theater to Jasmine Crockett BEFORE she got to Congress. There’s ‘code switching’ then there’s ‘playing a character from TV.’”

“Just so you know, Rep. Crockett grew up in wealthy West St. Louis County where she attended a high school so exclusive that one year costs more than Sharon and I have paid for every vehicle we’ve purchased in the last 25 years combined. Okay, we always buy used cars, but still,” another X user said.

Crockett, one of Congress’s most outspoken anti-Trump voices, was recently the target of a blistering investigation this week that described her as a “diva” who terrorizes staff workers.

Several congressional aides who worked for or with Crockett told the New York Post this week that Crockett, 44, called the fiery lawmaker “rude” and was rarely in her Washington, D.C., office except when the cameras were filming.

The New York Post profile on Crockett is full of salacious details and accusations about Crockett.

“She is laying around her apartment, won’t come into the office, and is really just indifferent to staff and will scream at them,” one former aide told the outlet, adding that Crockett is “never in the office” and “very disengaged.”

The former staffer added that Crockett “freaks out over the most random things.”

Another source says is “widely known” that Crockett mistreats personnel and is a “diva” who is “focused almost exclusively on being an influencer.”

Crockett, a Texas congresswoman in Congress since 2023, is well-known for her attacks on Trump, calling him a “piece of s***” and an “enemy to the United States.” The congresswoman is also known for her critical speeches against Trump during committee hearings, which frequently go viral on social media.

According to the story, Crockett frequently works from a fancy office building rather than her own office and is renowned for demanding that colleagues transport her short distances in a rented car rather than their personal car, which is typically utilized to save money.

During those trips, according to the New York Post, Crockett demands the rented car “has to be an Escalade” or something similar, and staffers are told to open the door for her.

“The staff is really just an island unto itself, because she doesn’t care about the local issues happening in her district,” a source told the New York Post. “She’s more focused on, ‘Get me on “The View,” ‘Get me on this late-night talk show.’”

The report goes on to say that Crockett has burned staff members at a rapid pace due to a “toxic staff environment” that has left Black female staff members feeling a lack of empowerment.

At one point, Crockett reportedly made a staff member cry after saying, “Do you really want to be here? And if not, you can leave!”
